Kiev
I went to Kiev to watch the final match of Euro 2012. Kiev is an Eastern European city with European style. When you go through the streets of Kiev , you imagine you are in Moscow or Saint Petersburg. The streets and the sidewalks are wide and clean but there are not any bridges over the streets to allow people to pass from one side of the street to the other side.
They have underground pathways they use to pass to the other side of the streets.
You can see several shops in the underground.
About 2’800’000 people live in Kiev. The city was very secure.
Women and girls were able to walk in the streets or pass through the underground even at midnight without any problem.
The police were present everywhere.
The Ukrainians are warm and friendly.
Their young people can usually speak English and even a third language in addition to their native language.
The metro system in Kiev is extensive and most people use the metro in place of taxis.
Taxi fares there are expensive because the price if fuel is high.
The currency of the Ukraine is the “Herevna” but they pronounce it “Grevna”.
The drivers obey driving rules but talk on their cell phones or do not fasten their seat belts. However the police do not get too hard on them.
Kiev was established over 1500 years ago. Three brothers and their sister founded the city of Kiev.
One of the brothers name was Kiev. For this reason , they named the city after him.
When I was there , I realized that Ukrainian girls or women are very loyal to their boyfriends or husbands.
Most of foreigners who lived in Kiev , had Ukrainian wives.
On the other hand they are very beautiful , attractive and well-dressed.
I saw several attractions in the city of Kiev.
There are many golden-domed churches in this beautiful city.
The Golden Gates of Kiev is the historic gateway in the ancient city fortress. These gates were built in 1024.
Perchesk Lavra is also known at the Kiev monastery of the caves.
St.Andrew church is located at the top of the Andriyivsky descent in Kiev.
St.Sophia cathedral is the other famous church in Kiev that tourists usually visit it.
Dnieper River goes through the city of Kiev and tourists can borad ferries or river buses to go sightseeing in this wide river.
Hidropark is a landscape-recreational park on the Dnieper river in Kiev.
The beacj of Hidropark is sandy so you can see many people in this beach during off days.
Kiev Microminiature museum was one of the most interesting museums which I have ever seen.
The world’s smallest book is stored here.
The fact is officially recorded in Guiness Book of Records.
There most of compositions are created in the half of poppy seed.
Nikolai Syadristy has been creating masterpieces in the style of miniatures for more than four decades.
Actually he is the creator of this trend in art.
Khreshchatyk is the most famous street inKiev which the city hall of Kiev is located there.
This long street goes to Maidan Nezalezhnisti (Independence Square).
The police always block this street during Sundays and change this avenue as a walking street .
Independence Square was the place of the Orange Revolution and people uprise in 2013.
When I was there , Independence square and Khreshchatyk street were the fan zone for the Euro 2012 football cup.
Seeing many happy people who came to the fan zone to support their favorite teams and watch the football matches through the big TV screens without any conflict or problem was very enjoyable and memorable for me.
I watched the final match of Euro 2012 between Spain and Italy in the Kiev Olympic Stadium.
Spain won 4-0 and after that Ukrainians celebrated the final night until midnight and I were viewing their happiness from the balcony of my apartment in Khreshchatyk street.
I confronted kind and hospitable people who wanted to have a better life based on the good potential of their country.
So I wish the Ukrainians all the best.
