Berlin
I boarded a Turkish Airline flight then after a two-hour stop in Istanbul , I changed another plane to fly to Berlin. I had arranged to stay at the Berlin Mark Hotel , a four-star hotel in the center of the city. After a 2-hour rest , I started to go sightseeing in Berlin. Based on my schedule , I had to see the Brandenburger Gate first.
I went to the bus station and waited for bus number 100.
An electronic board showed the times of bus arrivals and it was written the bus would come in four minutes.
About 20 minutes passed but bus number 100 did not come so I decided to go to the Brandenburger Gate by Taxi.It costs me about 10 Euros.
The Brandenburger Gate is one of 16 gates in Berlin and the most famous gate in the world.
This gate is considered to be the symbol of Germany.
The Embassy of the United States is just next to the Brandenburger gate and the embassies of England and France are close to it.
After seeing the gate , I went to Potsdamer square to see some parts of the Berlin Wall.
On the second day if my stay in Berlin , I stood in a long queue to see the dome of the Parliament building of Germany , Reishstag,.
After a-one hour stay in line , an employee of the Reishstag organization came and apologized to the people because of the delay.
She explained the Parliament Tourist Center had only one computer and this computer was broken.
The employee wanted people to be patient.
It was interesting for me that nobody objected her.
Eventually after an hour and 50 minutes of waiting in the line , I succeeded in seeing the glass dome of the German Parliament.
One of the most attractive places in Berlin is Madam Toussaud’s Museum.
Statues of politicians , athletes and celebrities are there and people can take photos with their favorite individuals.
Charlottenburg Palace , the Berliner Dome and Museum Island were other places I visited while in Berlin.
For travel to Dortmund , I needed to buy a train ticket so I went to the main railway station of Berlin.
The name of all train stations in Germany is “Hapt Banhof”.
The Hapt Banhof station in Berlin was a 5-storey building.
Three floores were underground , one floor was on the ground floor and the fifth was on the first floor.
On every floor , six trains stopped and moved.
I was confused and I could buy the ticket I needed.
I asked a German young girl where I had to proceed to buy my ticket?
She showed me a line in front of the cashiers but suggested that I buy ticket from one of the Automatic machines.
I told her the language of the machines was German and I did not know how to read it.
She came with me and stood in front of an automatic teller machine , asked me some questions about the time of the trip and the kind of seat I wanted and bought a ticket for me.
It took about 15 minutes of her time so I complimented her very much but she became surprised about why I was thanking her so much.
Before going to Germany , I thought German people were cold , dtict and radical,
I had heard they know English but do not like to speak it to force you to learn and speak German.
When I was in Germany , all of my preconceived notion changed.
The German people who I met on my trip were kind , friendly , positive and most of them could speak English.(September 2013)
